As some of the other reviews have pointed out, it's not real wood, but has a plastic-type wrap on the composite that gives it a textured surface. I think this gives it a much nicer look. It also looks exactly as it does online!As for the assembly, I was able to put it together by myself in about an hour and 15 min or so. One of the bolts for the legs to attach to the top did not line up with the predetermined holes, so I had to use 3 instead of 4. With that said, it hasn't affected the sturdiness of the desk.This desk is exactly what I needed and wanted for my office. Very sleek and modern design, but it fits well into my carefully curated home of antiques, art, and my style of furniture.
