This is a really nice quality product. We have been using it for a couple of months now on top of a cupboard in the hall, the sort of spot where messages are taken, shopping lists are scribbled and post gets deposited when it arrives. It looks really smart on our medium oak furniture, keeping pens and post-it notes to hand and protecting the wooden surface, and would work in either a contemporary or traditional setting. The colour is very dark brown. Time will tell, but I think it is worth what we paid for it, and "Chic" is a really good description for it.
