Most SQL DBA's are usually on the job , self taught. I am one of those people. This book help you fill in the holes you didn't learn simply cause you didn't need to learn. SQL has grown more and more and now has a ton of options, tools, and multiple ways to solve simple tasks. This book is also good to give to junior DBA's to help them train without taking up too much of your own time. Also good for a boss as a reference to decode what you are doing/saying. Also, has references to seldom touched topics such as Replication and Partitioning. having a job as a DBA and having a book that says "dummies" kinda stinks, but just hide it away or read at home to avoid the snarky comments.
