I purchased this simply to put on top of my desk to protect the wood from my pens, coffee, and keyboard. It is extremely thin (about equal to the thickness of a rigid smartphone screen protector). It did arrive with a few small pock marks (it's not expensive, what'd you expect?) It lies flat if you wipe down the surface with a damp rag first and then run a dry towel across first. This leaves just enough moisture to form a temporary bond that then dries in place. Be sure you are working in a clean environment when placing it down as the static electricity will attract everything and then you'll have stupid lumps.Arrived in a long rectangular Amazon box. Unrolled and placed desk slightly roll-curved side down; over a day it flattened out nicely. Leaving the protective film on both sides, cut to exact size needed, removed protective films and slipped into the sides of the 'old fashioned' desk blotter. Worked perfectly, looks great: it's shiny and very clear, which is what we wanted; no mars or wrinkles. I used to be able to get this at art stores or blueprint shops, but not for quite some time. We are very happy to have found this to replace an old, broken apart one. Thanks!I bought these to cover maps and diagrams so we could draw on them and make notes for training purposes using erasable markers. They were light enough to hang on a magnetic white board over the maps that we use, so we could leave notes for one shift to another.I ordered this item because it was advertised as "trimmable for versatility" with the intent to protect a family heirloom desk that is an odd size. This "desk protector" may do the job but it should be advertised as used. I read the previous review and considered the comments concerning the folds/creases. However, this thing looks like it was pulled off someone's desk. It was sent folded and crinkled in a flattened/"broke down" box not even half the size of the plastic itself with several areas exposed due to lack of coverage where the unfolded box sides didn't meet. Not to mention it was stuck to the tape used to close the box edges. A tube or even an oversized envelope would have been preferred packaging. The plastic sheet is no better than the old plastic pages of a sticky paged photo album from the 70's. A rubber place matt provides more protection. I'm sorry I wasted my money thinking it was worth it to "get by" until I could get a custom-cut glass top for my hand made antique desk. This is nothing more than a clear sheet of thin plastic. It is not a desk protector as it says, but is just a rolled up piece of clear plastic. It arrived with a permanent crease going down the entire length, near one edge--so to make it usable at all, i have to cut off that 12 inches that includes the crease. It also looks used, has many "pock" marks, and will not work as a desk protector. My assumption had been that this was a real desk protector, and had some weight so that it could hold things down. It is just a clear piece of thin plastic that won't hold down anything. I only paid $6 for it, so I am not going to complain about being too ripped off, but this is not what it claims.I was hoping for something a little more "protective" but it serves it's purpose for kids not to be able to get dry erase markers on my table. I'm a Reading Specialist & work @ my kitchen table so lots of pounding with markers, pencils, etc,, are on the table top. This wouldn't prevent denting but yes,,,,marks! We ordered these as perhaps a low cost item to protect a desktop writing surface. The plastic was dinged through some mishandling before shipment. When placed on the desktop it does offer a good bit of protection but also moves under the writer's pen/pencil. You will loose some comfort of handwriting on your desktop surface from our experience due to the movement. We have relegated the films to be used at a latter date and in a different context for which they were bought. In storage until the best use can be determined.I knew it will be kind of thin since it can be cut to size, which I did. I ordered it bigger since the size I wanted was not available. Came with a few dings and dangs in it, but for my purpose, it was good enough.
