The filemaster efficiency desk features a special opening in the top of the desk for a second storage area with hanging File folders. The File folders face the driver which makes it easier to see and access. The remaining desk top area is covered with the non-skid material. The large storage area is great for office tools and accessories and also for keeping a laptop hidden out-of-sight. Additional storage compartments hold small supplies such as pens, maps, etc. This AEFile-02 is ideal for those needing to keep mobile equipment out during the day but don't necessarily need the additional space for writing.

I waited three months to submit this review because I wanted to include the pros and cons of actually using the desk on a daily basis. For reference, the AUE 21000 RoadMaster fits the front passenger seat of my 2022 Ford Escape very well. It's quick and easy to install and remove as needed. I use a seatbelt clip to keep the shoulder belt out of the way but a carabiner would work too. I'm no longer suffering with shoulder pain from lifting my laptop back and forth from the passenger seat dozens of times every day.Things that could be improved:1) Price: I got a decent deal on mine through the Amazon Warehouse but the regular price is steep in my opinion.2) Knob: The neck was too short making it hard to loosen/tighten when moving the laptop across the desk without it completely falling out. Solution: I took the knob and plate to the home improvement store and found a knob with a longer neck. Problem solved.3) Velcro Strap: The velcro strap was awkward to use. It was too wide and blocked the function keys on the laptop. It was so thick that the laptop couldn't be closed while driving. Solution: I bought industrial strength 4" x 2" velcro with adhesive backing. I placed the smooth side on the bottom of my laptop (so it wouldn't scratch other surfaces) and the rough side on the metal plate for the desk. Problem solved.4) Wing: The "wing" overlaps my cup-holders just enough to make it tricky when I have a large cup and straw. Solution: I just shove the desk to the right. Problem solved.5) Storage Compartments: The storage areas on top are great but could be more functional. It would be great if the smaller slots were adjustable to accommodate the specific needs of the user. The slot for files could be a little wider. There is plenty of unused space on the desk side of the seatbelt slot that could have been used to add recessed and covered compartments for small items like paperclips, rubber bands, etc. The bottom compartment is best described as cavernous. I haven't executed a solution for this space yet. I currently hide my laptop in there whenever I make a quick pitstop. I'm thinking about getting some type of bins/drawers to keep supplies handy, secure and organized.Bottom line, if you work from your vehicle, you need to bite the bullet and buy one.I mostly love this thing. I'd caution you before you buy to make sure this model fits your needs. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because there are a few things I am less happy with and wish were explained or pictured before purchase. Let's break this down.First I use this in a law enforcement capacity. This sits in my passenger seat and holds paperwork, warrants, odds and ends, Kleenex, a travel size hair removal tape roller, and such. I have modified mine slightly by supergluing a neodymium magnet right where the half circle has been cut out of the rubber mat. I have a small cup of paper clips that I have taped an additional magnet into the bottom, and they sit fairly securely in that spot now. If I put a clipboard on the table portion and knock the cup loose then it is hopefully saved by the files sticking out of the top of the desk, otherwise I know have some cleaning to do. And it's super important to make sure they are all cleaned up, because you know what is perfect for picking the lock on a pair of handcuffs....? I am happy with my modification, but that part of the desk could easily have included some sort of recess or receptacle. The file portion on top of the desk.....The biggest problem I have is that there is not a contained bottom to the opening. You snap in the plastic portion that sticks up. This gives you a place to hang the hanging folders, but inside the cubby, anything down there competes with space with the hanging files. Which leads to folders sticking too far up, being squashed against the back wall, or not opening wide enough when you want to stick something in them, because they are squashed closed. If you don't put hanging file folders in there, and try just sticking paperwork in there then they will slide right out the hole for the cubby and end up in your lap. I would LOVE to have a rectangle box that fits there that is completely contained on the bottom. This is probably my BIGGEST gripe with this model. The small recesses along the back edge...meh. I haven't really found much use for them. They are deep, and somewhat oddly shaped. Just as you see in the picture. If you put pens in there they disappear deep enough that you'd have to dig one out with a finger. The file portion that is along the backside is great. I really don't have any issues with that part. It holds the hanging folders nicely, and if you don't want to use hanging folders you don't have to. You can stick paperwork straight up and it will stand above about 3.5-4 inches. You don't HAVE to strap this down with your seat belt, depending on your car. I am driving a 2009 Dodge Charger, and there is about a 4 inch gap between the front of the desk and my dash. Just enough to sometimes stick a metal clipboard (resting on a duty bag I have in the floorboard). I can't get to the duty bag too easily, but it's not completely cut off either.I also have an Uncle Mike's seat organizer hanging on the passenger seat. I'm still working out the best fit. If you hang it on the seat headrest like you're supposed to, it will cover the back receptacles so I've zip tied it to the roll bar on my prisoner partition. This keeps it up and out of the way, but doesn't supply the back support it needs to stay flat backed. It's starting to taco a little bit. I'll figure it out. The cubby is nice....kinda becomes a hole for junk sometimes. Whatever you put in there that doesn't touch the bottom will likely slide right out and on your lap when you turn...but I am using a police center console, so it's much lower than your's probably will be, and therefore you may not have that problem. I like that the wood portion is sturdy. I may mount a holster to the bottom inside the cubby in case I need to grab a weapon quickly and I’m off duty or it’s just easier to get to. The rubber coating on the desk is pretty grabby. Whatever is seated on it won’t slide, but whatever is on top of that thing most certainly will end up in your lap or on the console….sometimes accidentally activating lighting, radio, PA, or other police equipment depending on your console setup.Beyond that I can’t think of much else to say about it. The desk works great, it’s a big help sometimes, but sometimes I wish it stuck out more, or slid out. That brings me to my first point, make sure it’s going to fit your needs vs. other models. I need a computer mount and a printer mounted in my vehicle now. It seems I am going to have to find a way to modify this one or but another…and they aren’t cheap.Bought the Autoexec desk for work and I must say it has been an absolute game changer. I'm outside sales and work remote frequently. The desk works a lot better than my last setup, a desk that hung on the back of the front seat. I like that I can move it into place and out of place very quickly, use my laptop and move on.Its only negative is really my fault and something folks should consider before ordering. I ordered the birch, a light wood finish. At the right angle in the sun it is glaring and hard to see and use the laptop. I just cover it up with a jacket or my notebook but it is a mild annoyance and I want to stress...not the fault of the product! I may be getting the front windows in my vehicle tinted and it might help, we shall see. Just a heads up in case someone prefers that finish over something darker that wouldn't reflect and glare sunlight!I am extremely pleased with this product. It has reduced the amount of strain in my neck and in my back and hips. I gave it a 4 star because the laptop tray is damaged. There was no visible sign of damage on the box it arrived in but the bubble wrap was clearly broken and the is a split on the edge of the tray. I have taken photos but it will not allow me to add them. I highly recommend this product and it was suggested to me to bring to the attention on my supervisor as the company I work for has been looking for such a product!Have been using this product for over a year while working regularly on the road in a small ford focus. Product has allowed me to comfortably sit and work while sitting in the car over top of parking breaks or etc. A little pricey at first to get over but has been well worth the price paid over the period I have been using it.I work as a service electrician and just got mine Tuesday and already I dont know how I got by without it. For anyone in the service trades or work on the road it's a must have. No more loosing important papers or pens to the endless abis that is my service truck. It even survives those brutally bumpy Canadian haul truck roads up on the mines (witch was very surprising)I work out of my truck, It’s my office, computer, paperwork, binders. This is great to organize it all. I highly recommend this, I bought the bottom end version, 5 stars because that’s all they have, worth every pennyI love how practical this thing is. Solid 4 stars for practicality. Lost a star because I can see this thing getting scratched and looking old & ugly fast. Would definitely buy again tho
